Wayne Edwards has been teaching martial arts since 1998 and operating academies since 2001. Over the course of his career he has trained across a wide range of disciplines including Karate, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Boxing, Krav Maga, Kapap, Kung Fu, Escrima, Submission Grappling and DRCS (Defensive Response Combat System). This broad background allows him to combine effective elements from multiple systems to create practical, well-rounded training programmes.
Wayne is a former World Kickboxing Champion, President of the World Fight Martial Arts Council (WFMC) and the founder of DEEN Martial Arts.
Throughout his career he has coached and managed British teams at World Championship events and has helped develop British, European and World Champions in a variety of combat sports.
Alongside his work in martial arts, Wayne also worked within the professional security industry where he trained over 2,000 candidates in physical intervention, conflict management and personal safety during preparations for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. While these achievements represent an important part of his journey, Wayne believes elite competition represents only a small percentage of the martial arts community. His primary focus has always been teaching everyday people.
At Didsbury Black Belt Academy the aim is not simply to teach fighting techniques,
but to help people develop the qualities that make martial arts valuable in everyday life.
Training helps students build:
For many students martial arts becomes more than just training. It becomes a structured way to manage stress, build confidence and develop the mindset needed to overcome challenges both inside and outside the academy.
Wayne’s approach combines discipline, encouragement and constructive pressure. Students are supported, but also challenged to push beyond their comfort zones and take responsibility for their progress.
Through this environment, individuals develop independence, resilience and confidence as they overcome obstacles during training.
Over the years this approach has helped develop not only skilled martial artists but also strong individuals who carry the lessons of martial arts into their everyday lives.
Many students remain part of the academy for many years, progressing from beginners into confident and capable practitioners.
Wayne is also the founder of DEEN Martial Arts, a system designed to bring like-minded people together through martial arts training, sport and personal development.
DEEN focuses not only on physical techniques but also on developing the personal qualities that improve learning capacity and long-term performance.
Training within the system encourages the development of:
Through shared training experiences and competition, practitioners support each other while striving to improve both physically and mentally.
The goal is to create a community where individuals help one another grow and develop into stronger, more capable people.
Didsbury Black Belt Academy is built on a simple philosophy. The academy aims to provide a structured, respectful training environment where students of all ages can develop confidence, discipline and resilience through martial arts.
Whether students train for fitness, self-defence, competition or personal development, the goal remains the same — helping people grow stronger in both body and character.
